THE SIXTH WORLD ASSEMBLY OF THE GLOBAL CAMPAIGN FOR EDUCATION TOOK PLACE IN NEPAL

The Sixth World Assembly of the Global Campaign for Education (GCE) took place under the theme “Transforming Public Education Systems for Equality, Inclusion and Justice” in Kathmandu, Nepal, from the 13-18 November 2018.

More than 300 people from over 100 countries took part in the Assembly and related events.

Mr. Gevork Manoukian, the President of the Armenian Constitutional Right-Protective Centre (ACRPC), presented the activities of the GCE Armenian Coalition in the Assembly.

The Assembly elected the GCE new Board of Directors, as well as the GCE new President. Mr. Refaat Sabbah, the Secretary General of the Arab Coalition for Education for All, was elected as the GCE new President.

In parallel with the Assembly, the activities of the GCE member coalitions were presented in the former Royal Palace of Nepal. Besides of the numerous publications, posters and photos, a 4-minute film about the recent Armenian Velvet Revolution has been continuously shown at the Armenian Coalition’s pavilion.

The Assembly also adopted the new Strategic Plan of the movement for 2019-2022 for the next four years and made changes in the GCE Policy Motions.

The new elected Board of Directors in its first meeting will discuss the suggestion of the Armenian Coalition to change the policy “Human Rights Education” into “Human Rights and Peace Education”.
